The Exit Interview

The way an employee leaves your staff is just as important as how they joined it. There needs to be an open conversation and a thorough explanation of the cause, expectations, and next steps. Most importantly, it needs to be documented.

The best method for letting a staff member go is to conduct an exit interview as part of the off-boarding process. The exit interview has three primary purposes: to learn where the company can improve itself, to make sure employees leave feeling good about their service and, in some cases, [to encourage] the employee to stay under new circumstances. Additionally, in HNW private service specifically, the exit interview documents the circumstances of the employee’s departure; agreed upon by both parties. This can be an invaluable resource for any future claims or challenges to the separation.

We’ve created a guide and templates that will explain the process. You’ll find suggestions as to how and where to conduct the interview, potential questions to ask, and 2 customizable template options. We’ve also included an off-boarding checklist so that nothing falls through the cracks.
