The Estate Management Network invites Members to apply for our voluntary Board of Directors for 2025. We’re looking for individuals who are engaged in the community, and who have time to commit to growing our membership and furthering our mission.
What is The Estate Management Network?
The Estate Management Network is the premier professional organization for Estate Managers, Directors of Residences / Properties, Chiefs of Staff, and similar upper-management roles in private service. We strive to be the industry leader in providing professional resources, education, and networking opportunities for our community.
What Is the Function of the Board of Directors?
The general responsibilities of a board include:
- Executing the organization’s mission and purpose: The Board’s chief task is to help guide the organization, review our progress, and deliver programs that further the organization’s purpose.
- Ensuring the organization follows appropriate legal, financial, and ethical practices: The board’s task is to ensure the organization operates within the law and with the best interest of the community it serves.
- Generating a positive public image: Board Members will be entrusted with developing good will and engagement among community members and helping to grow our reputation as the leading organization for Estate Management professionals.
- Growing the membership: The Board will be encouraged to invite new members capable of upholding the organization’s values and furthering our mission.
Who will serve on the Board of Directors?
The EMN Board includes Members with experiences related to our mission in order to guide the organization in best practices. Directors may represent a variety of specialties within the Estate Management field including Estate Managers, Educators, Agents, Estate Service Providers. Individuals with experience in
Nonprofits, Business, or Financial management experience are encouraged. Director candidates are considered for open positions based on their professional experience, commitment of time, leadership ability, and ties to the community.
What Roles are Open for this term?
Vice Chairman: Supports and contributes to the overall strategy and vision for the organization. The Vice Chairman may serve in the acting Chairman role if the Chairman is unavailable.
Secretary: Serves as the organizer and record-keeper for board meetings, which may include scheduling the meetings, informing board members of the meeting schedule, sharing the meeting agendas, and recording meeting minutes.
Development Director: Focuses on efforts to attract and retain members. Engages in relationship-building and identifies potential programs and activities that align with the organization’s growth plan.
Industry Advisors (2 available roles): Individuals who can offer expertise in Estate Management fields are invited for an advisory role on the Board of Directors. Advisors may be asked to Chair committees or lead projects in their areas of expertise.

Successful Board Members Possess the Following Attributes:
- Strategic Thinking; Thought leaders who are focused on high-level, long-range, strategic issues
- Commitment; Serving the Estate Management Network requires a substantial commitment of time and dedication to the association’s mission and goals.
- Spirit of Collaboration; Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills are essential in board service, including an ability to listen, analyze and assess situations and act responsibly as a member of a unified body.
- Sound Judgment and Integrity; One who exercises their power in the interest of the organization, maintains a high degree of confidentiality, and is free from conflicts of interests.
- Proven Performance; Demonstrated knowledge and experience through contribution to the industry.
What is Needed from a Director?
The Estate Management Network seeks individuals committed to improving the professional development, growth, and standardization of our industry.
The commitments are as follows:
- Term

- One-year term commitment with option to recommit annually for up to 3 years.
- Time Commitment

- Attend and participate in a minimum of 4 (four) 1 to 1.5 hour virtual board meetings annually.
- Additional email and messaging communications throughout the year
- Attendance at 1 annual local meeting and /or the annual conference
- Leadership or participation in one committee or project annually
What is the Return?
Directors will have an opportunity to expand their circle of influence and build their reputation as an authority in the field of Estate Management through their contribution. Directors may facilitate projects and initiatives within their area of expertise and will have access to available resources of The Estate Management Network upon acceptance by the Board of Directors.
Please note, Board Members are not financially compensated.
